Lately, life’s been throwing punches left and right. Health scares with the kids, money stolen, and one of my family members lost everything in a house fire. Oh, and I was betrayed by someone I trusted. Fun, right?
But I’m resilient. Leaders like us push through. We’re strong, capable, and giving. We handle it all.
Until we don’t.
Sometimes, the hits just keep coming. You’re stuck feeling more discouraged than ever, questioning yourself, your mission, everything. And what you used to do to "fix it" doesn’t seem to work anymore.
You become the robot, the machine, just going through the motions—disconnected from your own dreams. I know because I’ve been there too. And then, after pouring myself out for everyone else, I got sick and was stuck in bed for weeks.
Here’s what I’ve learned: even when you’re strong, capable, and everyone relies on you, there comes a time when you need to stop. Rest. Heal. Let someone else help for a change.
If you’re feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, or just plain tired of being the go-to person, it’s time to shift gears.
What to do?
FIND SAFE PEOPLE
Look for those who lift you up, not drain your energy. You’ll know after one conversation. Trust me, they’re out there—ask God to guide you.
SURRENDER
Yes, you’re in a tough season. But in surrender, you’ll find a new, more compassionate way to live. Slowing down actually speeds things up. Who knew?
RESIST CONDEMNATION - PERMISSION TO SLOW DOWN!
Notice your train of thoughts first thing in the morning. If you are bombarded with a big to-do list there’s a good chance that a critical overbearing voice is telling you to go go go.
This never ending to do list can overwhelm and sabotage you.
I experienced this and I had to change some pretty big habits and ways of thinking about work.
Permission to go slower! Racing beyond your capacity is going to make you less productive. It is driven by underlying fear and fear won’t get you results. Belief, joy and peace will take you faster and further.
Take it slow, add some margin to your day.
Give yourself 2 hour blocks to intensely focus, then take a break.
Allow yourself to experience the day from a place of grace (hint this might be tricky if you’re a high performer but believe me - your brain and body will LOVE you and respond to this slower pace!
ENCOURAGE YOUR SOUL
Fill your soul up with worship, prayer, and positivity. Miracles happen when we position ourselves to experience peace.
The peace comes before the promotion. So focus on peace first, then the promotion will follow as you work from a state of peace.
So, if you’re feeling like life’s a bit much, you’re not alone. We all need safe spaces, time to heal, and a little help. And guess what? It’s totally okay to ask for it.
P.S. I’m putting together a personal, spiritual prophetic powerful retreat for high performers who are ready for deeper healing, freedom, and confidence and deep clarity for their next season. If that sounds like you, let me know. We’d love to hear your story and pray for you.
P.P.S. The best leaders I know are the ones who aren’t afraid to be real about their struggles. It’s time for deep, authentic connections—with God and each other.
If this resonates, reach out to me and let me know. I’m here to listen.
Permission to slow down!
